Japan-Open 2004, Osaka, Japan

Because of a sudden forfait of a japanese team we got the chance to attend the Japan Open in Osaka. As it had been done on the Australian Open, one representative was on site in Osaka while the rest of the team supported him from Dortmund.

The japanese people are very enthusiastic about robots. So many interested viewers came to the games.

In the Sony 4-Legged League overall 8 teams were competing: 7 of them came from Japan and the 8th was of course us, the Microsoft Hellhounds. In the preliminary round we didn't have much luck. We won one game and lost two, one of them by only a one goal difference. So we couldn't make it to the semi-finals.

In the Technical Challenge we performed much better. In this competition the robot has to deal with unknown and changing light conditions. Because of the robustness of our image-processing we reached the second place there.
