This year (2004) we decided to take part in the Australian Open in Sydney. Therefore we sent André Osterhues together with some robots to Australia. However, he was not alone, because some of us made long night-shifts in Germany to support him in case something was to be changed on the code.
All teams from Australia also arrived to this event. The current world champion "rUNSWift", the third place winners "NuBots", the strong young team of "UTS Unleashed!" from Sydney, and last but not least "Mi-Pal" from Griffith University. Every team had to play against all the others so we had to play 4 games.
Our first game was scheduled against "UTS Unleashed!". Because they used the old ERS-210 robots, and the porting of our code to the new platform wasn't yet mature, the opponent exhibited stronger ball-handling and fewer localization problems. So at the end we lost this game.
In the second game versus "rUNSWift", the current world champion, our robots had to play significantly better in order to have victory chances. Therefore the team in Dortmund reworked the complete tactics and sent the new program to Sydney. The robots now were much more aggressive. With this modifications we were able to win the game by 2:1.
For the next game against the "Nubots" we worked on the tactic again. Unfortually the opponent was very strong so we lost this game 4:2
The last game against "Mi-Pal" was much more smooth. At the end of the first half we were leading by 4:0 and the team from Griffith University gave up. So we won 8:0 without playing the second half.
At the end we reached a good overall third placement even among such a strong competition.
